As part of our co-curricular provision at Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge, we ask all students in year 9 to be involved in the YOU (Year of Us) Challenge. This follows on from our Graduation programme and is designed to offer students a broad range of opportunities, enabling them to become resilient learners with a thirst for learning and new experiences. We feel that it is hugely important for our Year 9 students to develop the skills and experiences that will allow them to make appropriate choices linked to subject choices, future education and/or training, and ultimately their final career choice.
As such, we have three tiers of challenges that students will be encouraged to complete throughout the year. These include:
BRONZE: focus on students developing the skills they will need to live independently and develop a strong sense of personal responsibility.
SILVER: focus on careers, with an emphasis on engaging with opportunities that will enrich their personal statement as well as ensuring students are actively planning their future progression to GCSE and beyond.
GOLD: focus on allowing students to engage with opportunities that will allow their personal statements to stand out from the crowd. This includes the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award and/or four specially chosen challenges.
Throughout the year we will be making students aware of additional Silver and Gold opportunities that they can take up in order to achieve these tiers. We also encourage students to identify opportunities outside of the academy that support the challenge.
